Air Wipe AWM 51 is an advanced version of the Ruby Air Wipe AWM 5 for cleansing bare metallic wires of 
Ø 0.1 to Ø 2.30 mm. The description ruby air wipe no longer applies as the rubies have been replaced by tungsten carbide for reasons explained below.  

While retaining the compact size of its predecessor, the AWM 51 now features:

  1. Supersonic airflow
  2. Versatile applications

Supersonic Air Flow saves compressed air by maximizing its kinetic energy.  However, in practice, the shock waves associated with supersonic airflow crack brittle materials like ruby, making it unsuitable for the wiping cylinder material.  Tungsten Carbide is chosen instead.  Nevertheless, ruby is retained in the centering guide that is upstream of the shock waves.

Seven (7) Replaceable Wiping Cylinders
in Tungsten Carbide make it possible for one AMW 51 to service the full spectrum of wires from Ø 0.1 to Ø 2.30 mm without the need for extra air wipes. The mirror finished bore of the Tungsten Carbide wiping cylinders permit close fitting of the wire into the cylinder, reducing the gap that is crucial in the creation of Supersonic Airflow.

A centering guide located upstream at the wire exit end of the air wipe, in unison with the Vortex, keeps the wire at the center of the wiping cylinder to assure an even distribution of the airflow and as such, it features a bore diameter smaller than that of the wiping cylinder. Fifteen (15) centering guides are available for air wipe AWM 51 as listed in Part Number Description. 

Part Number Description

The main part number is AWM 51 followed by the bore diameter of the wiping cylinder of your choice, with a hyphen in between. Example: AWM 51 – 0.8 stands for air wipe AWM 51 fitted with a wiping cylinder of bore Ø 0.8 mm. When choosing the bore diameter to suite your wire, please take into account the plus spec ( the + manufacturing tolerance) of the wire. Suppose the maximum wire diameter is 0.6 mm, then a bore Ø 0.8 mm wiping cylinder will work at the highest efficiency, consuming the least amount of compressed air, with an air gap of 0.10 mm around the wire.

This narrow gap principle applies only to the removal of water.  In the vent of cleansing powders, such as, solid lubricants, the gap should at least be equal to the width of the wire.
 
For extra wiping cylinders, the part number is: AWM 51 WC followed by the bore diameter of the wiping cylinder with a hyphen in between. Example: AWM 51 WC – 1.1 stands for air wipe AWM 51 wiping cylinder of bore Ø1.1 mm. Seven (7) wiping cylinders of progressively bigger bore diameters are available:

                                                 Ø 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, 1.1, 1.5, 2.0, 2.54 mm

For centering guides, the part number is AWM 51 CG followed by the bore diameter of the centering guide with a hyphen in between. Example: AWM 51 CG – 0.6 stands for air wipe AWM 51 centering guide of bore Ø0.6 mm. Fifteen (15) centering guides of progressively bigger bore diameters are available:

                                                 Ø 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, 1.5, 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 mm
